A Brief History of Fat, and Why We Hate It

Fat is a complex organ that is essential to our body, as it has many functions to help keep us alive. Fat is a source of essential fatty acids, which the body cannot make itself. That's why we store it so our body can use it.

Fat can help protect our internal organs, as well as providing our body with energy when needed and help keep cholesterol and blood pressure under control. A healthy amount of fat is needed to keep these functions running, but throughout history, the opinions of fat has been hotly debated.

Visually, fat can be desired or unwanted, depending on where it is stored in one's body. But knowing the role that fat plays into our health may change your mind on your body image.
