A low-carb and high-fat is a new diet trend that became popular over the last couple of years. Ketogenic recipes are popping up left and right, as well as tips and tricks on how to stick to the ketogenic diet and enter ketosis - a metabolic process that occurs when the body begins to burn fat for energy because it does not have enough carbohydrates to burn.

Essentially, you would cut back most of the carbs that are easy to digest, like sugar, soda, pastries, and white bread. Of course, like any diet, there are side effects when your body lacks certain nutrients.

People try the ketogenic diet most often to lose weight, but it can also help manage certain medical conditions, like epilepsy. It also may help people with heart disease, certain brain diseases, and even acne, but there needs to be more research done in those areas. Remember to talk with your doctor first to find out if it’s safe for you to try a ketogenic diet, especially if you have type 1 diabetes.
